Steve Ellis has been providing estate and business planning advice, with an emphasis on taxation issues, to clients in Sussex County, Delaware for over 30 years.

Steve’s business and tax practice includes:

  • Corporate reorganizations under Section 368 of the Internal Revenue Code;
  • Family business formation and planning, including providing advice as to how to structure ongoing business operations to minimize federal and state taxes;
  • Representation of both sellers and buyers in the sale or purchase of businesses, including advising as to structure; and
  • Legal advice as to partnership, individual and corporate tax, as well as estate and gift tax.

Steve’s estate planning practice includes such areas as:

  • Estate and tax planning;
  • Wills and revocable/irrevocable trusts;
  • Living Wills/Healthcare Powers of Attorney and Durable (financial) Powers of Attorney;
  • Life insurance trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, generation skipping trusts, special needs trusts and asset protection trusts;
  • Charitable planning and trusts;
  • Guardianship matters; and
  • Elder care and Medicaid planning.

Steve’s estate administration practice includes:

  • Assistance and advice to executors and trustees regarding estate and trust administration;
  • Preparation of Federal estate tax return and gift tax return; and
  • Chancery Court matters regarding estate and trust administration.

Steve’s civil litigation practice includes:

  • All stages of tax litigation, including administrative hearings before the Internal Revenue Service and matters in federal Tax Court;
  • Representation of estates in the audit of estate tax returns;
  • Representation of clients in the Delaware Court of Chancery as to matters involving probate and trust law; and
  • Representation of clients in areas of commercial and corporate law before Courts in the State of Delaware.

Steve was licensed by the State of Maryland as a certified public accountant in 1976. Prior to the formation of Ellis & Szabo, Steve was a partner at Tunnell & Raysor, P.A. and at Sergovic & Ellis, P.A., both located in Georgetown, Delaware.

Steve currently resides in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with his wife, Kathleen.
